Yashagaike Pond
This is a pond located at the summit of the border between Fukui Prefecture and Gifu Prefecture, 1,099m above sea level. This is said to be the source of the Hino River. In early summer, the summit is dotted with blooming daylilies. A species of diving beetle that is unique to Yashagaike Pond, as well as forest green tree frogs inhabit the pond, which has been famous as a place to pray for rain, as well as the setting for many old mythical legends.
