Take it Slow at an Old House Turned Cafe
Time moves slow in Imajo-shuku, an old post town with rows of quaint townhouses and a great historic atmosphere.
The coffee beans at Sou’s Coffee Roastery are roasted in-house in the renovated 90-year-old house. With counter seats on an earthen floor, a traditional tatami mat room, and terrace seating as well, enjoy a relaxing time in a traditional Japanese house. Plus, dogs are allowed in all rooms except the tatami room.
The super fresh coffee meets strict quality control requirements to be certified as “specialty coffee,” and goes great with their homemade baked goods.

Trunk, located near Nanjo Elementary School, is a relaxing cafe loved by locals.
The owner is a plant lover, so the interior is filled with greenery and warm sunlight.
We recommend the coffee and cake set for 800 yen, which comes with coffee and rare cheesecake for a great value.
This snow-white rare cheesecake has a smooth texture and a rich, creamy flavor.
The fragrant hand-dripped coffee is available in a choice of medium, dark, or extra dark roast.
Relax on the sofa seats or chat with the owner at the counter–there are many ways to enjoy this cozy space.

Handmade Bites that Warm the Heart
Orion Bake, located in the scenic Takura district of Minami-Echizen Town, was renovated from a former nursery school and has tastefully and playfully kept that atmosphere.
Enjoy handmade cafe staples made with tofu, locally grown fruit, and more.
The cute seasonal strawberry parfait (800 yen at time of writing) is made with plenty of strawberries from local farm Fruitful Garden Hinonomi. The elegantly sweet custard and blancmange go perfectly with the sweet and sour strawberries.
Crunchy homemade granola adds a nice accent. Once you start eating, it’s impossible to stop!
