Somayama Castle Ruins
A museum about the Ukon Family, one of the five great shipowners in the Sea of Japan region. Check out the Seiyokan up on the hill too.
Standing at a height of 492m, Mount Somayama used to be referred to as Mount Hiei of the north. The main castle keep was located across the entire hill, and this castle served as the main stronghold for the Southern Court in Hokuriku during the Nanboku-cho period due to its favorable geographical location as a chokepoint for traffic. This is designated as a national historic site, and is popular as a hiking trail now.

Enjoy some fresh seafood by having some kaisendon (seafood sashimi rice bowl) or kaisen-teishoku (seafood set meal). Other minshuku inns in Kono also serve delicious seafood.
Located in a town famous in Japan for producing lotus blooms, Hanahasu Park is one of the signature attractions of this town. A Lotus Festival is held in the park every year from end June to early August. Over 130 varieties of lotuses from all over the world can be found in the park, creating a magnificent sight when the flowers are in bloom.

Visit Yamanaka Tunnel and a range of other tunnels used as part of the old Hokuriku Railway, a series of cultural properties designated as Japan Heritage sites.
Located just beside Hanahasu Park is Hanahasu Onsen Somayama, which has baths open to the public, and also provides accommodation facilities. Visitors can relax and enjoy a leisurely soak in the outdoor bath, as well as the Lotus Bath which is unique to this bathhouse.
