Tunnels from the former Hokuriku Railway

In 1896, the former Hokuriku Railway's Tsuruga-Fukui route started operations. The section of this route running between Tsuruga and Imajo was marked by precipitous mountain terrain and steep slopes, and 12 tunnels were dug for this railway route. Out of the 12 tunnels, 11 still remain till this day. Aside from the tunnels, the dams, bridges, and underground drains built as a result of this railway route construction are also still preserved, showing us the essence of civil engineering technology back in the Meiji period.
